Discovery Clothing
Company History

Thoughts of a retail store began as father-and-son team Ron and Kenny Goldman sold clothing at a Chicago flea market. Soon, the first Discovery store was born. In 1986, Discovery Clothing Company, home of the hottest fashions at the lowest prices, came to life with a 1,200-square-foot store at the corner of Broadway and Bryn Mawr in Chicago – the first $10 and under clothing store in city. Since, the company has grown to become the largest independently owned and operated clothing retailer in Chicagoland, offering the best selection of the latest fashions at deep discounted prices.

“If it’s happening in fashion, Discovery has it in as many colors as our customers desire, at unbelievable prices,” said Kenny Goldman, co-CEO. “We offer the same styles and brand names as mall stores, but at much cheaper prices.”

Geared towards 15- to 30-year-old women, Discovery offers the trendiest fashions and incredible selections of individual styles – from active wear and casual attire to club clothing and career looks – at fractions of mall prices. Working on low markups, clothing is sold in tremendous volume. With more than 1,500 customers shopping in each store daily, inventory is turned over every two-and-a-half weeks so each location always is stocked with the freshest collection. Rock-bottom prices keep trendsetters and style-philes shopping frequently to catch the current fashion-forward heat wave. Discovery is the frugal fashionista’s best bet for bargain buys.

“With prices so low, customers don’t have to wait for hot items to go on sale,” explains Jeffrey Goldman, brother and co-CEO. “Our customers realize that they can impulse shop with out breaking the bank. If you like something, buy it…it won’t be here next week!”

Today, Discovery owns and operates 21 stores in Chicagoland and Northwest Indiana, and employs more than 350 people.
